Historical Memory Photo Essay

The process of creating the Historical Photo Essay was one that helped me develop skills that I had only begun using, such as Photoshop, and slideshow-layout presentations with detail. The process of creating the final slideshow was not too difficult to arrange, as the most difficult part was the synchronization of the audio to the show as it played. In order to do this, I had the slideshow play while I wrote what I would be saying, and would continuously time  it to ensure that it would fit the presentation length.

As a project, this was incredibly informative, as it gave me a reason to learn about a year that I had never read much on before. Although I had heard of the events that i had covered previously, I had never done in-depth study on them, following what events occurred and how they affected each other as they fell into place. Being given the opportunity to search through Creative Commons allowed me to see that some of my favorite family traditions simply would not have been possible before this (Charlie Brown Christmas, etc…). I had picked this year with the knowledge that Ben-Gurion was elected within said year, but had not realized that MLK’s marches, as well as Churchill’s death had occurred in the same year, nor had I realized that this was the year in which the US sent the Gemini rocket into space.

Projects such as this are a great method of gaining insight into the past, and while it is possible to let the imagination create stories that can retell family adventures or political events, these projects let the creator learn. Learning while creating and teaching is one of the most valuable experiences to me, hence why I enjoyed this project as much as I did.
